La Petite Provence du Paradou is just one of the fantastic sites we visited on our trip to Le Paradou, a quaint little village South East of France at the foot of the Alpilles mountain.
Once a medieval village, it has very old stone houses, admirably restored, with shutters in pastel tones, flowering gardens in vibrant colours and narrow pedestrian streets that let you stroll around as you please.
There are plenty of crafts shops and if you want a bite to eat you have a choice of restaurants and cafés.
La Petite Provence du Paradou is a Museum filled with detailed little miniature sculptures, a microcosm of Provencal life in the 17th/18th century. All the charm of Provence in miniature. Landscapes, villages, farms. All populated by Santons, the small figurines made from terra cotta and dressed in perfect regional costumes. From the Shepherd to the teacher. The pharmacist to the Mayor. All decked out and doing what they did back then. Frozen in time. Simply fascinating, we spent hours inspecting the detail and discipline that went into creating this enchanting space. Charles loved it!
